Embassy Speaker Informs Nepali Youth about American Education System

December 3, 2010 at 4:05 pm

As part of the Public Affairs Section’s ongoing Embassy Speaker Program, Pickering Fellow and political section officer Hector Brown addressed a group of 80 students (25 girls) between 14 and16 years of age at a high school in Kathmandu. He talked about unique aspects of the U.S. education system and encouraged students to go on to higher studies and become good citizens. He also encouraged them to read more books and invited them to visit the Mission’s American Library and use its circulating collection. In particular, he discussed post-secondary education in the United States and current popular trends on American campuses. The students focused their questions on the U.S. educational system and how they might be able to study in the United States and the types of scholarships available. Public Affairs Kathmandu used this visit to promote the American Library, distributing information cards and bookmarks to the students.
